Description
This course is designed to introduce participants to the basics of linocut printmaking technique, including design, carving, and printing. Through practical work, participants will acquire the necessary skills for creating prints and learn how to apply this technique in education or artistic expression. By the end of the course, each participant will complete their own linocut project, from concept to finished print.
Target audiences
Educators, primary and secondary school teachers (general and vocational), as well as anyone interested in basic printmaking techniques. The program is adapted for beginners but includes advanced aspects for those who want to deepen their knowledge and skills.
Course program
Day 1: Introduction to Linocut
- What is linocut and where is it used?
- Overview of basic tools and materials (linoleum, knives, rollers, inks, paper)
- Safety guidelines for working with tools
- Developing ideas and creating initial sketches
Day 2: Preparation and Carving
- Transferring sketches to linoleum
- Introduction to carving techniques: basic strokes, lines, and textures
- Precision carving exercises
- Beginning the creation of printing plate
Day 3: Printing
- Preparing inks and rollers for printing
- Printing techniques: hand printing and using a press
- Experiments with ink intensity and paper textures
- Creating first prints and analyzing results
Day 4: Refinement and Experiments
- Completing carving and final plate adjustments
- Combining linocut with other techniques (monotype, collage)
- Preparing a series of prints for final work
Day 5: Final Project and Evaluation
- Final printing of completed work
- Presentation of works and feedback
- Discussion about applications of linocut in education and art
- Proper storage and archiving of prints
